Escapism
In a time of crisis, business as usual expired and the moral for eco-conscious consumption died with it.
Over the past week or so, our connection with fashion has changed drastically and I can't help but wonder if this will have a knock on effect, post covid-19. Will it change the way we consume? And has it taken a global pandemic to change our relationship with obsessive and unnecessary consumption?
At the beginning of the month the nations supermarkets were fluctuated with a sea of panic buyers, stocking up on products that they’ll never use, to be left in a heap of 'out of date' waste. And what I’m wondering now is, will this finally change the way we consume? Afterall, necessity is the mother of all invention.
I have set up another survey this week to help me engage with the average consumers current mind state and their recent interactions with consumption. I am interested to know how the adversity of this pandemic has changed our relationship with fashion. Are we using it as escapism or is it no longer relevant in our lives? What effect if this going to have on the industry long term and is it appropriate to be speaking about sustainability right now or do we have bigger problems to be concerned about?
